Youtube Wellness Revolution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umAu-89jw24A condition obtained when a person achieves a level of health that minimizes the chances of becoming ill. Wellness is achieved by a combination of emotional, environmental, mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. Definitions of wellness vary depending upon who is promoting it. wellness promoters try to facilitate a healthier population and a higher quality of life. Wellness can be defined as the pursuit of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
The concept of wellness is not new to healthcare. In 1948, in its constitution, the World Health Organization defined wellness as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"
" The National Wellness Institute defines wellness as "an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence."
Wellness is a positive, holistic process, not necessarily the absence of disease nor the opposite of illness. Wellness focuses on the whole person and involves the domains of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual balance.
What makes wellness an ideal approach for managing healthcare is that it involves changing unhealthy behaviors or habits to goal setting, adding new experiences, and assimilating new information. In using a positive approach and focusing on good health versus illness, the healthcare consumer feels less deprived and more responsible for his or her health and well-being.
